A monumental initiative to connect the core of downtown with adjacent neighborhoods is moving again. Imagine walking between the city core and First Hill without the roar of cars. Imagine a new park space and playground in the center city. Lid I-5 is the vision to make that happen by capping the freeway in downtown Seattle. Earlier this month, the plan received a major boost as the Seattle City Council passed a resolution to endorse it. Seattle is not alone in this vision. With new sources of federal funding, cities across the country are moving forward on plans to build open spaces over freeways.

Join us on Oct. 11 to hear from leaders of Seattle’s Lid I-5 movement along with those who are leading similar efforts in Atlanta and Bellevue. You'll get the latest on Seattle’s efforts, learn how other cities are progressing, proposed costs and next steps.

Guest speakers include Jack Cebe, Development Manager with Central Atlanta Progress; Jesse Canedo, Chief Economic Development Officer for the City of Bellevue, state Senator Jamie Pedersen, and Scott Bonjukian, co-chair of Seattle's Lid I-5 effort. The discussion will be moderated by Natalie Bicknell of The Urbanist.

    Presenter

    Jack Cebe

Stitch Development Manager, Central Atlanta Progress/ADID

Jack oversees the planning, partnerships, and programs required to advance the Stitch, an initiative of the City of Atlanta to cap the Downtown Connector with 14 acres of new park space and transportation improvements in north Downtown Atlanta. Over the course of his career as an engineer, landscape architect, and urban planning professional, he has led a wide range of complex projects that have given him a deep understanding of the coalition-building, systems and operational needs, and collaborative problem solving required to ensure the Stitch’s success. Following graduation from the Landscape Architecture program at Clemson University, Jack began his career in Chicago working on significant urban design and transportation projects such as the mayor’s initiative to implement 100 miles of protected bike lanes in four years. Later, he moved to Atlanta to attend graduate school at Georgia Tech, receiving a master's degree in Civil Engineering and a MBA from the Scheller College of Business. Following graduation Jack worked for a local architectural and engineering firm managing a myriad of different planning, engineering, and landscape architecture projects throughout the Atlanta region for clients including City of Atlanta, GDOT, and Community Improvement Districts. When he’s not “stitching” downtown back together, you can find Jack gardening, playing in his band “Short Shadow,” riding his bike around Atlanta, or relaxing on the porch with his wife Aileen, dog Orchid, and cat Bean.
