Mass Timber Part 1: Meeting Environmental and Social Objectives with Wood Buildings

Join Kate Carrigg of WoodWorks, and Chandra Robinson of LEVER Architecture, in an engaging discussion offering an exploration of the benefits of wood and mass timber towards meeting environmental and social objectives. This presentation will explore wood’s role in sustainable development goals such as healthy buildings, reduced carbon impact, resilience, circularity, and environmental equity, while drawing on examples like the Meyer Memorial Trust Campus in Portland’s Albina Neighborhood.

Meyer Memorial Trust is a 2022 winner of the ULI Americas Award for Excellence in the category of Equitable Development. The campus acts as a platform for advancing Meyer’s initiatives and investment in organizations, communities, ideas, and efforts that contribute to a flourishing and equitable Oregon. Among key design decisions, wood and mass timber were selected as the primary building material with the goal of increasing the project’s overall impact towards equity and sustainability.
