ULI Northwest: (FY20 CANCELLED) Urbanizing the Suburbs - Diverse Perspectives on the Future of Suburbia (Portland)
The predominant real estate and urban design trend of the last decade has been a shift away from suburban development towards redevelopment in core cities. As we enter a new decade, will this trend towards more urban environments expand to the suburbs? The Urban Land Institute’s 2020 Emerging Trends report identified “Hipsturbia” – the transformation of suburban areas into hipper more urban spaces - as a defining pattern to watch. “Success has a way of spreading, and 24-hour downtowns have provided replicable models that many suburban communities are seeking to emulate."
Our esteemed moderator and panel will dive into some of the thorny questions facing urban and suburban environments in an era of climate change, technological transformation, increasing income disparity, and high housing costs in the nation’s most prosperous cities.
