    As Seattle rebounds from the pandemic, the life sciences real estate sector is garnering unprecedented investor interest. ULI Northwest invites you to join an event with leaders in this field who will discuss their current projects and what it takes to pivot into the life science market. Attendees will hear about adding flexibility for lab conversion during the entitlement phase, the challenges of repositioning existing office buildings, and formulating a new ground-up development strategy.

    COVID-19 Updates for In-Person Events
     
    As we transition to in-person events, the health and safety of our ULI members and attendees are paramount. Therefore, ULI Northwest will continuously follow state and county regulations and abide by venue guidelines in Washington for any in-person programming.
     
    • For fully vaccinated individuals, wearing a mask is encouraged in indoor settings. For unvaccinated individuals, wearing a mask is required in indoor settings. 
    • Masks are not required outdoors, but unvaccinated individuals are encouraged to wear masks in crowded outdoor settings where it is hard to maintain physical distance. 
    Please stay home if you are sick, vulnerable, or if you have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19  
    • Please do not attend an in-person event if you feel sick, experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or believe you may have been recently exposed to COVID-19.
    • Please consider carefully whether to attend an in-person event if you are a member of a high-risk group or in close contact with one or more individuals in a high-risk group. Per CDC, high-risk groups include older adults, people with medical conditions, pregnant and recently pregnant people. 
    • If you begin to experience flu-like symptoms of COVID-19 while at an in-person event, please ensure you are wearing a mask, immediately notify a staff person while maintaining a safe physical distance, and quarantine away from others until you can safely depart.

    Speakers

    Matt Haverty

    Vice President | Head of Construction, Boston Region , Oxford Properties

    Matt Haverty has over 25 years of technical and managerial experience and leadership in construction and development. As Oxford continues to expand its Life Science asset class, Matt has focused his efforts on Life Science conversions, new development and cGMP opportunities across North America. Prior to joining Oxford in 2017, Matt served as the Head of Interiors with Gilbane Building Company. Under his leadership, the Interiors group grew from 15 team members to over 85, and revenue rose from $35M to over $120M annually. Matt has a deep understanding of the best practices in construction, real estate development, and managing teams to be successful. He has particular expertise in organizing and managing complex redevelopment projects and evaluating existing assets for adaptive reuse.

    Chad Yoshinobu

    Principal, Gensler

    Chad Yoshinobu is a Design Principal, Studio Director, and Global Practice Leader of Sciences for Gensler, a global architecture and design firm. Chad believes that design is about three simple ideas: Design must be purposeful; design needs to work and work well, be compelling, and it should shift the way people think and feel; and design should tell a story – an extraordinary story about our clients, their goals, or their beliefs. Chad has shaped a diverse range of environments from life science campuses and buildings, office towers, hotels, food + beverage retail, to the interiors of technology and life science companies. His client list comprises local, national, and global companies, with projects ranging from 500 to more than 1,000,000 square feet.

    Mike Ruhl

    Vice President, Leasing, BioMed Realty

    Mike Ruhl has 30 years of real estate development experience in the Seattle market, encompassing 20 years of development expertise and 10 years specifically in real estate and construction. He is a Board Member on the Runstad Department of Real Estate, University of Washington College of Built Environment. Mr. Ruhl also serves on the Board of Directors for the Life Science Washington organization –focused on helping grow the state’s life science economy by bringing together research institutions, investors, and innovators. He received a Bachelor degree in Economics from Seattle University. Mr. Ruhl is BioMed Realty’s Project Lead for Dexter Yard, a 520,000 square feet combined lab office and retail building situated at the intersection of South Lake Union’s Tech Row. The community-centric design centers around an activated ground plane featuring a unique pedestrian through-block passage linking the South Lake Union and Dexter neighborhoods, featuring a one-of-a-kind amenity multi-space building.
