On February 1 to kick off Black History Month, we hosted our Embedding Racial Equity in Real Estate event, based on the 10 Principles for Embedding Racial Equity in Real Estate Development report.
George Northcroft kicked off our event with a powerful speech about the importance of racial equity in our work and in the broader society, and the importance of acting with urgency today. We welcomed Taidgh McClory of T.H. McClory from Boston to speak about the 10 Principles report and examples of projects across the United States that exemplify the 10 Principles. Finally, Jaebadiah Gardner of GardnerGlobal joined the other two speakers for a fireside chat, where he spoke about his experience in real estate and shared how he has embedded the Principles in his real estate practice.
We concluded our event with an opportunity for small group discussion. Attendees considered four Principles and were encouraged to share how they were going to take steps toward embedding racial equity within their work. At the end, everyone submitted an action plan for themselves. See the responses below.
We appreciate the strong commitments and the vulnerability that everyone brought to their small group discussions. We would like to thank our event sponsors, Amazon and BentallGreenOak for their support of this event, and our speakers, Taidgh McClory, George Northcroft, and Jaebadiah Gardner.
