Seattle Women’s Leadership Initiative Wins ELEVATE Award

The members of the Seattle Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) were proud to accept the Association Ally Award at the 1st Annual ELEVATE Awards Gala. The event, hosted by CREW and The Registry, honored diversity and women’s leadership in commercial real estate. 

The ULI Northwest chapter of WLI was established in 2016 with the mission to raise the visibility and number of women leaders both within ULI and the real estate industry. The WLI Executive Committee has been chaired since inception by Kristine Wilson, a partner at Perkins Coie, and Jen Reyes, the Senior VP of National Sales at Fidelity National Title. The 10 other Executive Committee members represent a variety of disciplines, including construction, public accounting, development, and real estate management, indicative of the truly inter-disciplinary nature of the real estate industry.

WLI Programming

The WLI meets monthly and focuses on the twin goals of networking and content-based programming in order to achieve their mission. The group has worked to create programming such as the upcoming Quest for Talent: Recruit and Keep Diverse Leaders in Real Estate, to be held on January 16, 2019, and networking opportunities such as Wine and Dines. In order to understand what types of programming would be beneficial, the WLI Executive Committee interviewed a dozen senior real estate executives to understand the existing challenges for women in the marketplace, identify gaps, and raise awareness about diversity in leadership roles. WLI also conducted an assessment of existing ULI Northwest committees and speakers at local ULI events with the goal of ultimately increasing the number of women in leadership positions.

Wine & Dines

Wine and Dines are small group dinners facilitated by members of the WLI Executive Committee that allow for women in the industry to meet new people and learn more about ULI Northwest and WLI.  These unique networking opportunities have brought together more than 90 women leaders in the past year. The Wine and Dine format has since become a model across the ULI network, with multiple District Councils recreating the successful event in their own markets.
