A fascinating, informative and fun virtual tour of the world-famous Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Instead of exploring the groundbreaking medical scientific research, we’ll get an exclusive peek at the amazing science behind the science. The Director of Facilities, Bob Cowan, will be your tour guide leading you through the 1.6-million sqft campus that is one of the most complex and technical spaces in Washington State. You’ll see the 100 air handling units that can move over 2-million cubic feet of air a minute, making up to 60 air changes happen per hour. You’ll tour the boiler rooms that support the heating and cooling of this enormous amount of air and the sophisticated control system that makes it all happen. We’ll also visit the famous interstitial spaces of the building, exploring how they contribute to Fred Hutch's world-class science. As a special bonus, Bob will demonstrate the building automation system, that not only controls over 10,000 pieces of equipment, but also optimizes system performance, reducing the facility’s carbon footprint. We’ll conclude with a Q&A, delving into Bob’s knowledge accumulated through his 22-years with the organization. This is a virtual tour of a Seattle institute of excellence that anyone in the built environment community would regret to miss.
