The Changing Nature of Urban Retail (Portland, OR)
The future of urban retail remains hazy amidst a cloud of economic, demographic, and technological change. The online marketplace has revolutionized how we purchase things but has drastically impacted where we purchase them. Once dominant, regional malls and shopping centers are losing their vibrancy and transforming into something new. Urban retail has reshaped, as people and companies continue to migrate to the urban core, seeking live, work, play options.
At this ULI Northwest event, we will hear from James Cook, a national retail expert on major retail trends; what major categories are thriving and which are dying in an urban setting, the emergence of experience retail, major trends in food and fashion retailing, and what will happen to those large empty boxes at the local mall. We will have a panel discussion with James, Liam Thornton from Live Nation Entertainment, a firm that will be revitalizing one of those mall anchors, and Brian Greeley from Urban Works Real Estate, an expert on the Portland retail market.
Join us for this lively discussion about national urban retail trends, and how Portland follows or bucks those trends.
