Sound Transit U-Link Grand Opening

Husky Stadium Station and Broadway Station, the two newest stations of Seattle’s light rail system, opened over the weekend. Dubbed as U-Link by Sound Transit, the Husky Stadium station marks the first light rail connection to North Seattle. See below for more photos from the Husky Stadium Station grand opening.

The Bullitt Foundation is a seven-person, ­Seattle-based philanthropic organization founded by Dorothy S. Bullitt in 1952. North Carolina Looking to Seattle and Eugene Bus Rapid Transit Systems For Inspiration

Check out this great video examining the successful Bus Rapid Transit systems in Seattle  and Eugene. The Research Triangle area of North Carolina, which is comprised of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary, is preparing to install their own BRT system. Members of their Regional Transit Alliance, as well as ULI Triangle members, traveled to the Pacific Northwest to do research on what has worked well here. The video features many ULI Northwest-related friendly faces.

ULI Northwest is presenting “Expanding the Circle for TOD” on March 19 at W Seattle Hotel in downtown Seattle. The idea for the program grew from a discussion by ULI Northwest’s Housing Task Force about more effective ways to reduce the cost of housing than trying to find less expensive two-by-fours. Our members in the Portland area might be interested in the upcoming Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association symposium on Rebuilding Communities presented by leaders in the rebuilding of the cities of Detroit, Michigan and Joplin, Missouri.
