Event Preview | Put a Lid on It: Creating New Opportunities for Urban Land

KWP1What does the future look like for Seattle as open space becomes scarce due to population growth? While we might not have an answer just quite yet, ULI Northwest is hoping to continue this discussion by hosting an event that will discuss the idea of putting a lid on I-5 and whether or not this is the right fit for downtown Seattle. Held on June 1st, 2016 at the Grand Hyatt in Downtown Seattle from 7:30 A.M to 10:00 A.M, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

With the Puget Sound region experiencing an unprecedented rate of growth, lidding of freeways and expressways has become a popular topic in recent months. Considered as an old-concept, lidding has served as a common technology used to cover freeways and deliver much needed open space in the Greater Seattle area.

The highly anticipated event will kick off with some networking, a plated breakfast with coffee and tea, followed by a keynote from Jim Burnett, who is the lead architect behind Klyde Warren Park in Dallas. After Jim’s presentation, the expert group of local panelists will discuss the topic more in-depth and host an interactive discussion. At the end of this event, there will be a Q&A with the panel. Attendees are encouraged to come with ideas to share and questions to ask.

Seattle, more than ever, is experiencing affordability challenges, limited land supply, and demand for additional public open space. During this event we want to recognize successful public spaces that could enrich the heart of Seattle both socially and economically. Let’s keep the conversation going when it comes to lidding Interstate 5. Join ULI as we generate real action to improve our local urban environment.
